i thought i owed it to my subscribers to update you on what i've been up to.  the job search has started again.  it's been so long since i graduated, and i don't have a fulltime teaching job yet, so i'm a little discouraged and tired of looking.  i sent applications to a lot of districts, and i've been preparing for interviews too.  i've been practicing answering questions they typically ask in interviews, and i've been rewriting some essays i wrote in college, such as my philosophy of education and philosophy of discipline statements.  it helps me articulate my ideas, and it helps motivate me by reminding myself how i feel about education.  hopefully something will work out.

you know how i used to welcome new subscribers in my entries?  i haven't done that in a while, probably since i haven't posted in while, but i will now.  someone who calls herself s. k. subscribed to my site.  so hi new subscriber!

Don't get discouraged despite not seeing tangible results... If you continue to look that hard, then it's just a question of time before you get a full-time job.

@getthesensation -

I honestly think so... There's a shortage of teachers in Quebec. You should really check that.

@kachino - really?  i bet my mom would love that, because that would give her an excuse to visit quebec.  i don't know how far i can go there since i don't speak french.  hey, do you know where saint bruno is?  i lived there when i was very little, and then my family moved to philly when i was 5.  it's not very far from montreal.

I know that in Quebec, French is really important. However, I still think they could use more math teachers who only speak English since they're plenty of English only schools here. Yes, I know where St-Bruno is located. It's in the South shore of the island of Montreal. I've never been there ... but probably will one day for skiing.

Why did you family moved to Philadelphia?

@kachino - my father grew up near philadelphia, and moved to montreal to go to grad school at mcgill, which is where he met my mom.  we moved back to philadelphia when he decided to leave his job and he found a new job around here.

maybe learning french wouldn't be so hard because i already know a little bit of spanish.  besides, it seemed english-friendly when i visited a couple of years ago.

Is your mom bilingual? (French & English)? If so, then you could learn French from her. You're absolutely right about Montreal being very English-friendly... however, don't expect to get that friendly outside the big city and its surrounding.

@kachino - yeah, that's what i hear about montreal vs. the rest of quebec.  cities are expected to be more international anyway.  my mom is bilingual.  she grew up in a french speaking town in ontario near sudbury.  she tried to teach me when i was young, but, sorry to say, i resisted.

Big cities are supposed to be like that. Tu n'aurais pas du résister au fait que ta mère voulait t'enseigner le français.

I know the feeling of going through the job search! I am about to graduate with my Masters in August and I have been looking for jobs as a prof or teacher and a lot of the positions have been frozen with no new hires in my area and surrounding areas. It will be interesting to see what I end up doing! God bless your search as well! Thanks for visiting my site! By the way great Petty quote at the top. I always said that was my theme song!

I am not certified for anything yet, but I have a Masters in history. If I take 12 more hours of philosophy classes then I could teach philosophy as well. I am hoping to teach community college level but I may have to settle for high school which I will have to be certified for. What are you certified to teach?
